According to the genetic evidence (Shih et al. 2016), the family Ocypodidae is composed of three subfamilies. Because the fiddler crabs are paraphyletic, with two groups are closely related with Ocypode, all subgenera of Uca are here recognized as full genera. Detailed evidence and other information have shown in Shih et al. (2016). Currently the species number of fiddler crabs is 108 (20 Mar 2024).
