註: 本種與愛氏短槳蟹 (Thalamita edwardsi) 形態十分接近，可由背甲中鰓區是否有隆脊分出。屬名「Thalamita」源自「thalamite」，古代希臘的三列槳座戰船 (trireme) 中，船邊共有上中下三層的划槳手，分別稱為 thranite、zygite、thalamite，最下層 thalamite 使用的槳最短，因此用來形容此屬的泳足，而有「短槳蟹」的中文稱呼。種名「admete」源自於「Admete」，是希臘神話中的女神「阿得米提」，有「未婚、單身」的意思，衍生為「未馴服、野性、野生」之意。
